Description

Copper rod is the main raw material of the cable industry, and there are two main production methods - continuous casting and rolling method and up-casting method. Due to the different processes of producing copper rods, the oxygen content and appearance of the produced copper rods are different. The copper rod produced by up-drawing is called oxygen-free copper rod when the oxygen content is below 10ppm;
Low-oxygen copper rod and oxygen-free copper rod have different characteristics due to different manufacturing methods.
1、 About the inhalation and removal of oxygen and its state of existence
The oxygen content of low-oxygen copper rod is generally between 200 (175) and 400 (450) ppm, so the oxygen is inhaled under the liquid state of copper, while the oxygen-free copper rod of up-leading method is the opposite. After the oxygen is kept under the liquid state of copper for a certain time, it is reduced and removed. Generally, the oxygen content of this rod is below 10-50 ppm, with a minimum of 1-2ppm. The oxygen in oxygen-free copper is very low, so the microstructure of this copper is uniform and single-phase, which is beneficial to toughness.
2、 Difference between the amount of impurities and the existing hot rolling defects
The stretchability of oxygen-free copper rod is superior to that of low-oxygen copper rod in all wire diameters. In addition to the above structural reasons, oxygen-free copper rod has less inclusions, stable oxygen content, no defects that may occur during hot rolling, lax oxygen monitoring, and unstable oxygen content will directly affect the performance of the rod. If the oxide on the surface of the rod can be compensated in the continuous cleaning of the later process, it is more troublesome that there are quite a lot of oxides in the "subcutaneous", which has a more direct impact on the wire breakage.
3、 The toughness of low-oxygen copper rod is different from that of non-oxygen copper rod
Both can be pulled to 0.015mm, but the distance between the fine wires of low-temperature grade oxygen-free copper in the low-temperature superconducting wire is only 0.001mm
4、 The manufacturing process of low-oxygen copper rod is different from that of oxygen-free copper rod
The wire manufacturing process of low oxygen copper rod cannot be transferred to the wire manufacturing process of oxygen free copper rod, at least the annealing process of the two is different. Because the flexibility of the wire is deeply affected by the material composition and the rod making, wire making and annealing process, it can not be simply said that low oxygen copper or oxygen-free copper is soft and hard.
